Curriculum

At HHA, Bible study is at the heart of everything we do. We aim to cultivate not only knowledge of Scripture, but a living, vibrant faith that shapes every area of students’ lives. Through daily lessons and discussion students are guided to understand God’s Word, His character, and His purposes for the world.

Students engage with Scripture in a hands-on and meaningful way, learning to read, memorize, and apply biblical truths. Lessons are designed to encourage personal reflection, prayer, and practical application, helping students see how God’s Word informs their thoughts, actions, and relationships.

Our goal is to nurture a love for the Bible, a desire to live according to its teachings, and a heart for worship and service. Students learn that God’s Word is not just something to study, but a guide for life, shaping character, choices, and daily habits in alignment with His truth. At HHA, our Language Arts program is rooted in depth, beauty, and strong foundations. We place a significant emphasis on writing and sentence structure, equipping students to communicate clearly, confidently, and thoughtfully. Students are guided in developing well-formed sentences, organized paragraphs, and expressive written work that reflects both skill and understanding.

Daily handwriting instruction through cursive is an integral part of our rhythm, reinforcing attentiveness, fine motor development, and care in presentation.

Our students engage in rich reading and narration from living books—stories filled with depth, imagination, and truth—cultivating comprehension, vocabulary, and a love of literature. Poetry is woven throughout the year, inviting students to delight in language, rhythm, and beauty.

Through intentional practice and meaningful texts, we aim to shape articulate thinkers, attentive readers, and capable writers who delight in words and use them well.

At HHA, our mathematics instruction is grounded in clarity, structure, and mastery. We utilize BJU Press curriculum to provide a strong, sequential foundation in mathematical concepts and problem-solving skills. Lessons are taught with intentional guidance, clear modeling, and consistent practice to ensure students not only understand procedures, but truly grasp the “why” behind them.

Students are encouraged to approach math with confidence and perseverance, developing accuracy, logical thinking, and disciplined work habits. Through encouraged family alignment we aim to cultivate capable problem-solvers who see mathematics as both purposeful and rewarding.

Science at HHA is rooted in curiosity, discovery, and hands-on learning. Our program places a strong emphasis on experiments, observation, and active participation so students can experience concepts firsthand rather than simply reading about them.

Through engaging experiments and guided inquiry, students develop critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of the natural world.

Nature study is woven throughout the year, encouraging careful observation, wonder, and appreciation for God’s creation. Students learn to slow down, notice details, and cultivate both scientific skill and joyful curiosity.

Our History and Geography studies focus primarily on American history while also exploring missionaries and global cultures around the world. Students examine the events, leaders, and defining moments that have shaped our nation, while gaining a broader understanding of the global Church and the spread of the Gospel across cultures and continents.

Geography is integrated throughout our studies, helping students connect places, people, and historical movements. Through maps, stories, and thoughtful discussion, students develop a growing awareness of both their national heritage and their place in a wider world.

At HHA, we believe education should nourish the soul as well as the mind. Once a week students engage in an artist study, becoming familiar with the works and styles of influential artists. They learn to observe carefully, appreciate beauty, and recognize creativity as a gift.

Poetry study is woven into our weekly rhythm, inviting students to delight in language, imagery, and expression. Through recitation and discussion students grow in confidence and develop an ear for the beauty and cadence of well-crafted words.

At HHA, Physical Education is more than movement – it is an opportunity to cultivate discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and joyful stewardship of the bodies God has given us. We believe physical activity plays an important role in developing both character and confidence.

Twice each month, we partner with Push The Rock, a respected homeschool athletic program, to provide structured and engaging gym classes. During these sessions, students participate in organized games and skill-building activities designed to develop coordination, strength, agility, and teamwork.

Through healthy competition and guided instruction, students are encouraged to practice self-control, humility in victory, grace in challenge, and encouragement toward their peers. Physical Education becomes a setting where integrity, resilience, and Christlike character are practiced in real time.

Our goal is not simply athletic development, but the formation of students who understand that caring for their bodies and interacting honorably with others is part of living faithfully and wholeheartedly.

Music is a joyful and treasured part of our week at HHA. Under the leadership of our wonderful music teacher, students experience engaging instruction that cultivates both appreciation and participation.

Through singing, rhythm, and foundational music concepts, students grow in confidence and musical understanding. Our music classes fill the halls with joy and help nurture creativity, discipline, and delight in the gift of song.

The students are learning wonderous hymns throughout the year in addition to overall music theory!

Parent Instruction Days

On parent instruction days, parents have the flexibility to choose their own curriculum for their child’s learning experience, allowing them to tailor lessons to their family’s preferences and educational goals. However, we recommend that parents consider aligning their math curriculum with the one we’ve chosen, as it provides a strong foundation and consistency in building essential skills. This ensures that students have a cohesive learning experience, while still allowing parents the freedom to guide their child’s education in other subjects.
